Jyotirmay International School,
Pune

Situated in Wagholi, the Jyotirmay International School is a great example of climate responsive architecture, which is what we specialize in. The materials used in the construction and the plan are both in response to the local hot and dry climate. Rat trap bonds, filler slabs, are all a part of the building which casts its shadow upon itself keeping it cool throughout the hot months.

An interesting feature in this design is the inclusion of light shelves which help in refracting light deep inside the building and ensures that natural light penetrates most of the spaces inside. The ventilation shafts for each classroom open on the leeward side of the wind making sure the classrooms are well ventilated and not stuffy. The exposed brick walls and arches lend this school a comforting and unique characteristic.

Creating a learning environment is all about designing a space conducive for learning and the Jyotirmay School was designed keeping this in mind. Being a school with classes from the first all the way up to the tenth grade, it was mandatory to have different entrances and exits for the different age groups.
