Khale House,
Pune
The existing area for the Khale House being a smaller plot, the dividing walls were removed to open the space up. As a result, the kitchen area became large and since the client enjoys hosting guests, it was favourable for them. Another space-increasing feature is seen in the ferrocemented walls of the house. The sitting windows in almost all rooms make sure that less space is consumed by the furniture.
The living room opens up into a backyard and the dining area has a skylight making sure that the space remains ventilated and ample sunlight is received. There is a small verandah for the grandparents room and almost all the remaining bedrooms either have an adjoining balcony/verandah-like structure which doubles as an extending living space.
The terrace is landscaped as per the clients’ needs and has a lounge area too. The sloping roof ensures that there is less load on the existing old structure. The terrace is also accessible by a small lift which is beneficial for the elderly.
